Didn't we all have a great three days at the Boston University
Agganis Arena for the Boston Regional FIRST Robotics Competition!
This was the culmination of our six-weeks build and two-weeks wait
after shipping the robot. The long and short of it is that the
Melrose High School Team did "awesome" in our first year of
competition! There were 53 teams from around Mass, NH, Maine, Conn,
RI, California and Canada. We were one of five "Rookie" (1st year)
teams; and we won the award for "Most Inspiring Rookie Team". We also
finished about 17th in the qualifying rounds and were picked by the
number 2 seeded alliance to enter the elimination rounds for the
Championship. In the Championship Rounds, there were eight alliances
of three teams each; and our alliance made it to the semifinals in
the double elimination tournament. In the Quarter Final round we won
our first match , tied our second and won our third, thus getting us
into the Semi-Finals. In the Semi-Finals our alliance succumbed to
the eventual winning alliance.
All who were able to be there had a great time. The students, mentors
and parents were "stoked" by how well the iRaiders were doing every
step of the way and very happy with the overall result. Some of the
low numbered teams have been competing for up to 12 years and have
over thirty kids on their team. We have twelve very dedicated and
completely involved kids on our team.
If you would like, you can look at the whole Boston event on the
enclosed link. We are team # 2713, the iRaiders.
